Greencastle Pier Road
This compact house is located on the shores of Carlingford Lough, near Greencastle. The design responds dramatically to it's seaside position by turning the internal accomodation upside down. The first floor is a single open plan flexible space with multi-functional living spaces which all have panoramic views towards the lough. A 'pier-like' structure forms an outdoor living space at this level.
Each bedroom on the ground floor has a view to the sea, the picture frame windows capture images of the Lighthouse, the Shipyards and Carlingford Mountains beyond.
The efficient plan is orientated, not only to maximise views of the changing tide but also to absorb solar gain to all habitable rooms.
The simple form of this rural house is sympathetic to the traditional structures found up and down the pennisula.
