We lodged replacement dwelling planning application under PPS21 where the existing stone structure was retained and appropriately incorporated into the scheme.
We worked closely with the Craigavon Division of the Planning Service to sympathetically retain and regenerate the existing structure whilst adding new accommodation which is both modest and in keeping with the rural character of the area yet providing adequate modern day living standards.
Our initial concept was retain the existing structure with a small glazed entrance linking the old to a new simple pitch roof form containing habitable accommodation as illustrated in the enclosed booklet.
We believe that such an approach not only promotes the survival of rural tradition buildings in Northern Ireland but encourages them to be part of everyday life, in essence a ‘sense of joy’ instead of a ‘sense of loss’.
